That ceramic hybrid base on the crystal oscillator may have some sort of temp control or monitoring going on.

There's definitely something interesting going on, it has a 5th soldered connection on the side and looks to have more unconnected pads.

It is probably a VCTCXO (voltage controlled, temperature compensated crystal oscillator). Maybe they drive the control input with a DAC and calibrate each crystal during manufacturing.
Since TCXOs (temperature compensated crystal oscillator) use a temperature sensor to compensate the temperature drift the frequency is already controlled by an internal voltage. Therefore you get an additional voltage control input almost for free.

Good short video; this is very nice if there is nothing incredibly new to be shown.

I love to see the excellent redesign with minimal interference to an already nice product (if it is working, don't change it! :) )

Oh, the "whys" of the datasheets... The information is there not to be an axiomatic truth, but instead each speck of data must be slowly inhaled while carefully performing a deep search inside oneself to find the true metaphysical sense...

I noticed that they changed from what looked like a soldered in CMOS battery to a socketed one.  They even wrote the voltage on the battery.  Is Keysight having reliability problems with the batteries they purchase?

Yes, it's nearly identical in hardware, but I wonder how many hours of software development went into the new scope?  The design of electronics (consumer and professional) is increasingly related to software.  Maybe the 'teardown' should include disassembly of the code (just kidding...)?

software should just be a reuse of the 4k series as the 4k series was basically a 3k series with touch.
