Ragworm PCB - UK
« on: December 10, 2018, 02:24:03 pm »
Posting this in general chat so it's more likely to be seen.

Has anyone here got experience with Ragworm PCB? I placed an order some weeks ago and they were very responsive to emails at the time. They said they had the gerbers and were putting the design into production.

Since then... nothing. Not answering phone calls, not answering emails to any address. Some of the numbers on their website even go to completely random people. Does anyone now what's happening?

OTOH, I ordered some 4 layer boards from JLCPCB a week ago. 0.8mm 4 layer ENIG for £40 - they just arrived and are absolutely spot on!

They are run by Spirit, the worst UK PCB company I've ever dealt with, so nothing would surprise me.
Whenever I've mentioned Spirit's name amongst other electronics folk there is usually at least a couple of people rolling their eyes in sympathy.
In my case it was continually lying about late deliveries. Boards were fine when I eventually got them.
YMMV.

Mike's Electric Stuff: High voltage, vintage electronics etc.

Thanks for the reassurance :)

Oh well, 12 quid down the drain I guess. I no longer need them anyway since the design was superseded by the ones I got made at JLCPCB. It's annoying when a UK company does a worse job than a Chinese one, cost difference aside.

The seem to be part of Stickleback manufacturing group.

Companies house will give the name and address of the controlling director.

Unless you just use the business address, as I do. Though it looks like Steve Driver's address is actually a residential address. For £12 I can't be bothered to chase it, but sadly it looks like you can still place orders and pay for them. Just don't expect to hear anything back, or receive PCBs... If they do ever arrive they're going in the bin anyway.

Oh well, so much for great UK service.

Yeh, stick with JLCPCB, board quality is excellent and the price is even better.
I've ordered boards on Monday and been delivered on Friday (DHL $20 shipping option) to northern UK.
The cheaper shipping option ($6-ish) has been 2 to 3 weeks max for me.

No affiliation, just a happy customer.

Today I decided to call Ragworm, just in case, since their website is still up.

Surprisingly they answered (for the first time out of maybe 20 attempts since November) and were very perplexed by the delayed order, the lack of communication etc... They refunded me but it is just beyond me how a business can run in this manner, and given what people have said on social media it looks like I'm not the only one to go without their orders being fulfilled and no communication for months. Just bizarre.

Oh well.
