I see waveform that does not utilize the full amplitude range of the scope.

Don't trust me I work in marketing!

After a few years with LeCroy and R&S I work for HIOKI USA. If there is anything I can help with, please contact me.

What is it?

A push button being pressed with bouncing effects. The trigger of the scope has a pre-delay... since there's a little arrow in the upper left corner.

That waveform was captured on an oscilloscope in one of the Zachry labs at Texas A&M. It only shows a small part of a very complex waveform.

wouldn't it be more sensible to show us more of the wave or would that give the game away ?

Logically  its an wave that lasts  10 seconds or 10ms .
And has an very fast deviation , its no sound ,  its no frequency , its pulses  , it could be an digital siren .

I reckon that peak is the NTSC colour sub-carrier on 3.58MHz (fooled me because PAL is on 4.433MHz), so the waveform is a video scan line of something, minus synch pulses.

That's what it is, technically.

The actual answer is what my friend Allie Moore looks like on an oscilloscope.
