VK-172 GPS Mouse from China?!
« on: November 18, 2017, 02:23:48 pm »
Hi
I found a ton of VK-172 on Ebay.  :o
The claim to use Ublox7 Chipset. The cheapest i could found is EUR 6,25.  :-DD
Does anyone here have experience with?
Is this genuine?
Thanks

EDIT: Some people pre-fare the older Vk-162 one.

According to the description on the US Amazon site, these may not work well indoors.  Somehow they expect me to boost the satellite signals (probably not happening) or work out in the yard.  Even then, the trees probably block most of the satellites.

My cell phone won't get a GPS lock inside the house, I'm pretty sure the dongle won't do any better.

It's just a USB GPS, why is it called a "mouse"? A GPS computer mouse would be a terrible idea!

Does this device work as a serial adapter? If I plug in and open a terminal, will it send data similar to NMEA protocol?

Not GPS, but something like this:

That said, prior to the availability of affordable smartphones, a GPS receiver and mouse combo would actually be quite good for travel use.
