Firefox 75
« on: July 22, 2020, 01:31:13 am »
I am pretty sure I opened up a thread a couple of months ago about experimenting with Firefox 75 right after the Vivaldi one and it disappeared or maybe I thought I did.

It went from:
1028166-0

To this:
1028170-1

There was one annoyance and I didn't know what it was:
1028174-2

Until now except below didn't work:

Hello all,
this new expanding URL Bar is HORRIBLE.
How can i disable this stupid implementation ?

Hello Airdropper,
I totally agree with you ....
Would you do this please :
Type in the address bar about:config and press Enter. (ignore the warning)
Type in the search bar and look for the preference :
browser.urlbar.openViewOnFocus
and set its value to false
Do the same with these preferences :
browser.urlbar.update1
browser.urlbar.update1.interventions
browser.urlbar.update1.searchTips

Then close and restart Firefox.

(if it's only the Top Sites suggestions that you want to get rid of : setting the value of first preference to "false" will do that)

more options
So it looks like the devs are insistant that this will be "the way to present" mozilla from now on from the bugzilla posts. Cleaning up my bookmarks ready to jump ship when this workaround stops working in Version 77.

I found this:

This is an internal pref that has lost its purpose now that we've enabled it by default in release. Bug 1627858 has been filed for a user-visible pref for the top sites feature.

Enabled it by default of course but, what has that got to do with the flags to turn it off.
Feel the arrogance?

Need to set this in about:config for UserChrome.css in profile to work
toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets       true
https://www.ghacks.net/2020/04/08/how-to-restore-the-old-firefox-address-bar/
Add to UserChrome.CSS
If windows: C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<current firefox profile>\Chrome\userChrome.css
