Looking for Altera EPM3128A Evaluation Board.
« on: October 18, 2013, 10:10:19 pm »
Hi all!

I know that these CPLD are not the newest but that's exactly what I need and all the I/O support 5V.

I only found on the market this board for EPM3128A:

In reality I need something less complex, like this with nearly all I/O accessible (*1 edited):

But I can't find any.  A development board for EPM7128A could also work, because his pinout is similar.
Another option is design/making a board, if anyone has one already designed and wants to share would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I also found this, but there's no stock:

Sorry I forgot to mention that I need to have accessible nearly all I/O (*1 edited).
Then what you are looking for is a breakout board not dev board.

Hi!
If breakout board means that it have accessible nearly all I/O. Then you're right, and excuse me for not using the more correct terminology.  (I've changed the title of the Topic)
By the by do you know where I can find one?

At least the board must have:
  - Oscillator.
  - Power regulator.
  - JTAG port.

Something like that:

Or like that: http://www.ebay.com/itm/EP4CE6-EP4CE6E22C8N-FPGA-ALTERA-Cyclone-IV-Development-Evaluation-Board-Core-Kit-/251194059567?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a7c552b2f
What you need for Cyclone devices is 3 power rails, 3.3V, 2.5V, 1.2V, at least one clock source and JTAG connector and rest depends on your application.

Yes, that board looks good. However it is not designed for a EPM7128A.
At the end I'll have to make one board, because I can't find any for the EPM3128ATC100.

keep in mind that both 3xxx and 7xxx families are close to being end of life...

plus they are expensive . you could be better off switching to a newer family. the parts wil be cheaper and have more functionality

I feared as, and yes, you are right.
I have also considered the XC9500XL (are not the newest), all I/O pin accept 5V but only can out 3.3 or 2.5V. And the ispMACH4000ZE family, I particularly prefer these over the XC9500.

However, the hot socketing characteristics at the MAX3000A are excellent, and can output 5V. Also the MAX3000A don't have any special requirements for the power up sequence. I had a comparison table, but can't find, I don't know where I left it.

By the way, thanks for sharing all this via the "Silicon Chip Wafer Fab Mailbag", awesome!

MAX3000 is a CPLD not FPGA. You can only reprogram it something like 100 times.
