Star trek communicator!

(you'd think an automative multimeter would spell "engine" correctly)

While the switch and buttons seem difficult to use because of the high shoulder, the meter can fold up to protect the display from being scratched, as well as protecting all the switch and dials from accidental presses.  And I presume you can fit the entire unit into your pocket, or just toss into your tool box in the car.  So there are some merits to this design and it is not all bad.

Being a Star Trek fan, I may just to have to get one.  I hope I can open it with a flip of my wrist like Captain Kirk  :)

BTW, if you go visit the large Chinese cities like Hong Kong, you will know where the extravagance come from.  Hong Kong, as a city of 7 million people, is the largest importer of top end Swiss watches of any country, they alone accounts for 20% of all Swiss watch sold, and has long held the top spot of the most Rolls Royce per capita for decades.

Auto mechanics have big tool boxes and tend to throw stuff into them.  They are hard on meters.

I suppose the face protection is welcome in other kinds of shops and field service situations as well.

This meter looks unusual but they may be on to something.  I found that the big problem with most meters is how to prop them up while still being able to see the display.  This is particularly bad when working on a vertical panel or when working on a vehicle.  If I'm using a clamp meter, I usually use the clamp to hold the meter at a less inconvenient position.

Now that I wear glasses, how about a heads up display reflected off them?

I like the concept from the display protection point of view. From the practical sense, not being able to stow the display without removing the leads would be a show-stopper for me. In fact, accidental attempts to do so would tend to damage the display.
