Now for some using the Argus3 16mm f/1 lens

First the revised camera setup itself.

The lens is spaced off by one M3 nut, which puts the lens focus adjustment in a sensible range, infinity as shown and moves to closer focus as you move the screw around the spiral slot (which moves the rear element).

This also allows an estimate of where the F1G2 image plane lies, as the imaging of the Argus3 lens is known

The F1G2 assembly (with lens removed of course) has its' image plane around 4.5mm inside the face of the shutter unit.

This is video of using a 25mm lens with a Flir Lepton 3. Distance 30-35m.

And a print case. It looks so like this. And remove the original Lepton lens, of course.

The image looked like using a telephoto lens.  What lens was it ?

BTW, how did you remove the Lepton lens ?  Can you put it back ?

This is a first generation BMW NV camera lens.
The original lepton lens can be returned. It has a thread.

Bit of a pause while fitting another lens mount, and the micro USB connector has given up on me.  Also as you can see looks like some dust needs cleaning out.

So just a couple of teaser photos before things fell apart..... same scene as usual

So the mechanics of the latest setup, with a 75mm f/0/8 lens in place ....

This is the lens and mount from a pevicon tube camera, the P4430.  Dual threadform for several lens types / sizes.  the inner is the 'standard' Wreathall mount where the lens is screwed in and has its' own focus

The outer coarse thread is an EEV special where the lens is simply rotated to focus on this square section double start thread - as otherwise the lens was so big it came outside the camera case size.

Now the thermal images.
With this lens the field of view is around 1 degree.  Aiming it is pretty tricky even when you know what you should be seeing !

and finally this massive object................. a 150mm f/1 it seems.  The lens is not marked with part ID's

the thermal images.

If the 75mm was tricky to focus and aim, this was much worse.

150mm f/1 with a field of view of 0.6 degrees. just right for the moon.

There is something really satisfying about that moonshot. It's essentially all I ever wanted from thermal imaging, and it's the reason why I got here in the first place. Sad to realize, that I am not ambitious enough to go out and do it.

So I do have a 150mm f/1 lens, and a Lepton 2.5 that I don't use.

I wonder what this lens would provide in terms of FOV on a tiny Lepton Core. It was a long range observation lens working into a 320 x 240 pixel microbolometer that uses 50um pixels  >:D

I have not even got around to powering these cameras so no idea of lens specification, except that they are BIG !  :-DD

I was really just showing what could be captured, these are just a single shot with the app.  A decent tripod mount, some 'super-resolution' stacking etc could do a whole lot more but I'll leave those for others.

A writeup / archive on www.fire-tics.co.uk will follow with some more part detail.  The 15mm lens units and the PCB/gerbers available to all - just PM.  Sorry only got the one 150mm !

The next Frankencamera is probably putting the big Pevicon lenses in front of a modern ULIS 17µm somehow.  Obviously cannot land as many pixels on the moon but the digital data availability could make up for some that.

Simple - you have a narrowing of just over 4x from the pixel pitch and 2x from the smaller sensor.  then some small angle (un)approximation stuff going on. 9% of the original field of view.

If it was a microbolometer I fancy it is an f/1 lens - or not far off.  So might well be another 150mm F/L ? = 0.55 °
If it was a cooled sensor then the lens is going to be nearer f/4 - putting the F/L up to 600mm   :scared: =  0.14°
