Hi,
In your country,  how much does a good quality general  electronics solderer and assembler get?
Age 25+.
In UK, such a person, after 18 months or so, would get £8.21/hr (9.15 Euros per hour, 10.28$ US, 14.7$ Australia )
How much in your country?

Minimum wage in NZ is 17.70 NZD (equivalent 9.37 GBP, 11.73 USD currently), so at least that, and probably not much more realistically.

Edit: Forgot it went up recently.

Minimum wage in Australia is AU$19.49 per hour, illegal to hire anyone under that for any job at any age.
Want to hire then as a casual? That's another 25% on top.

Is that the net wage?
Currently, AUD19.49 is approx. 12EUR. Here in France, the net minimum wage is currently 7.87EUR per hour. And there is much pressure to lower it...
(And I don't think the cost of living is significantly greater in Australia...)

For the job treez mentioned, it depends on the industry and company's size, but I'd say it's about 25% over the minimum wage on average over here. Can be higher in very specialized industries (such as medical or aerospace...)

Treez,

It should not be about cost per hour. It should be about productivity. To compete against low cost manufacturing regions, you have to design smart, take full advantage of automation and minimize manual labour content.

That's before tax, although tax on minimum wage is pretty small, the first $18k a year is tax free.

No idea what solderers here earn, but wouldn't be minimum wage. It's a semi-skilled trade.

How much in your country?

It does depend a lot on what the product is.
A company that needs a electronic solder/assembler for aerospace/medical will pay more to get better quality.

Yep. This is at the heart of a contradiction in Trump's MAGA initiatives. Work didn't move from Europe and America to Asia because Asian labour was cheap. It moved because Asian labour was cheaper than eliminating the jobs altogether, by automating the work in its original location. As automation gets cheaper, and can handle a wider range of tasks, more labour gets eliminated completely. The combination of cheapening automation and rising labour costs in Asia, especially China, means you can currently bring lots of work back from Asia to Europe or America. You can't bring back many jobs, though, and the jobs you bring are high skill ones. High skill jobs sounds good. It sounds better paid. However, if you haven't been nurturing the necessary skills locally, you aren't a good target for a new factory.

Most work these days is automatic machine SMD.
I know there are components that do have to be fit by hand.
In my 30+ years as a electronics design engineer my experience is they are usually on minimum wage.
One company I worked for took on kids just out school who were 16 and they got paid less than adult min wage.

Funny one too.

Is that so because low-paid employees are harder to manage in general, or because the corresponding jobs require more management?
You have 2 hours.

Aaah, those frenchmen, always complaining ;-)

Regarding the question: I asked some of our soldering/assembly techs in the factory. The average seems to be around 13 to 14€ per hour.

At my local electronics assembler, they almost exclusively have trained technicians do the manual soldering jobs, so they certainly get paid well over minimum wage. The company I worked earlier also has exclusively trained technicians and engineers in electronics assembly for aerospace and defense stuff. There where rumors that dental technicians would consistently do the best solder joints. They where, of course, all paid quite well.

Yeah aerospace assembly/soldering was paid ~$20-25/hr from my experience. Whereas the generic "assembly house" soldering techs are barely above minimum wage ($14/hr).
Realistically the work they did was not very different. But you need at least some minimal certifications for the aerospace position.

Numbers from here: https://www.glassdoor.ca/Salary/Creation-Technologies-Salaries-E23823.htm (SMT line: $15-20, test operator: $17/hr)
in CAD (20 CAD = 15 USD).

Minimum wage in Thailand is expected to increase 7 percent to 330 THB per day, approx $10 a day or just over $1 an hour, though many smaller companies get away by paying less. Assemblers would be on minimum or less.

I understand the rates are similar down here. Coincidentally, there's a Creation BU close to me. :)

Most of the shops around here are near or at minimum wage and largely illegal alien workforces. As they move beyond the very basics they get paid more but $12/hr is sort of a high number. This is for production shops that just assemble and solder PCB's and products. Little to no engineering done.
