skills in demand in Aus?
« on: May 05, 2015, 09:25:12 pm »
hi all,

I have just migrated to Melbourne. I have a degree in Electronic Engineering and have had no work experience so u could assume I am a graduate. What I want to know is what sort of skills may make me more marketable in the Aussie Electronics Industry as a graduate?

I am having no luck with jobs or graduate positions:( What skills can I upgrade myself with?

Any tips?

Edit: I realise now this was necroposting, sorry.

It's difficult to tell from what you've stated your situation. You may well have a degree, but what have you done since that degree, and how did you end up migrating to Melbourne? Are you an Aussie or not, and if not what is your visa/right to work status?

Like it or not your age would be relevant. If you've spent a year "finding yourself" since the degree, not too much of a big deal, but if you've been on an extended walkabout for a number of years that's going to be rather harder.

Showing what projects you have worked on, and taking them to the interview.
"Just a graduate" with no projects? too bad, there are are others who have them and they are the ones that will get the job over you.
Go find some projects to work on.
Few companies in Oz care about your grades.

and how did you end up migrating to Melbourne?

You can probably expect that question at the interview.
