Title: Altium to Kicad library conversion ?
Post by: TSL on January 31, 2021, 01:59:46 am
Hi all,
I'm after a converter to transform Coilcraft's Altium library to Kicad

Does anyone know of one or have a procedure to do that ?

thanks
Tim

Go to Coilcraft site, choose your model and download it as a .step.
Once on your HD, unzip the file ond open the model with Freecad. Install the kicadstepup workbench addon and export your .step to Kicad as both step and wrml in the same operation.
Have fun

My guess is that TSL wants to convert the PCB footprints in Coilcraft's Altium library to Kicad.

Why that would involve STEP files is anyone's guess.

Yes... footprints are the issue.

They are quite unique and I was hoping not to have to reproduce them manually since there is an Altium Library available but not for anything else, hence the question.

The 3D & 2D images of the devices are available on 3Dcentral so those bits are not the issue.
