Here is a nice tool to have around when you need to create a custom component ...
http://cyclerecorder.org/footprintbuilder/ (http://cyclerecorder.org/footprintbuilder/)
Let's you create footprints that can be imported in a kicad library. It saved me a lot of time

Some time ago I found this online footprint generator (http://kicad.rohrbacher.net/quicklib.php) and I can recommend it, saves a lot of time too.
-
I use that one .. is good. Only a "small" difference between that one and the one i found.
The one I gave creates PCBnew footprints, the one in your link creates EEschema symbols. Basically these two together can be used as a quick way to get custom "components" into projects.

Yes, my mistake, I meant schematic symbols, not footprints.
-
Does it support standard IPC land patterns like the Altium and PADS wizards?
-
For sure is not as professional as the one in Altium but you can basically use the measurements from the data sheet and just put them in and it will create a good footprint. I think it does not know SOT packages and may have some other shortcoming but hey .. better than nothing :)
