Title: Kicad Improvement
Post by: steven236 on May 04, 2023, 05:12:44 am
I am a big user of Kicad. Have to say Kicad6.0 is much much better than Kicad5.0.
I have some friends who are software engineers and we have a plan to improve Kicad since it is open-source. So What features do you think could be improved in KiCad?Are there any specific tools or features that you feel are missing in KiCad.Or any additional comments or feedback about your experiences with KiCad
Let me know, Let’s see whether we could develop some new functions based on the current Kicad version. |O |O |O :scared: :scared:

KiCad has issue tracker. There issues are graded and discussed. Pick any of them and start implementing. Everything people really want will be reported as an issue.

Discussing wishes without knowing your real ability to do anything is just a waste of time.  Solve a few existing issues, show that you can actually follow though, then there would be something to discuss.

Also, current version is 7.0.

What would be nice as well is to update the documentation.

Also, a file format description for V7.

Head over to https://dev-docs.kicad.org/en/contribute/ to get your bearings.

It's not clear from your post, but if your plan should be to spin out a separate version of KiCad which is under your own control: Don't. You and your friends do not have the critical mass and the credibility to do that, and Kicad would not benefit from a fragmentation of development resources and versions.
