Title: KiCAD precision arrow key movement
Post by: blueskull on June 23, 2020, 09:33:13 am
Hi all,

As I'm familiarizing myself with KiCAD, I ran into another problem: unable to move precisely with m+arrow keys.

If I try to move a part with cursor, it moves freely, as expected. But if I try to do that with arrow keys, it sometimes will miss a step or move two steps (which I set to 0.025mm).

Is it some sort of hotspot snapping or grid metric/imperial bugs or is it some sort of a feature?

Also OT, is there a way to force KiCAD to use metric internally, so let's say, 4.000mm is 4.000mm instead of 3.998mm?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

B.G.

afaik kicad pcb is metric internally, in nanometers

Assuming you are talking about the layout and further i assume you are under version 5.1.x

Are you aware of the move exactly and position relative tools? (both available in the right click context menu, or shortcuts ctrl+m and ctrl+r)

And there is also the align and distribute option which might be useful as well (for align tools the last selected item is the reference item unless one of the items is locked than that one is the reference).
