All traces are gone?
« on: March 06, 2016, 09:14:56 am »
I just upgraded to the new version 4. I am a newbie and just learning KiCad.

I don't remember what I did but at some point I could only see traces if I clicked on the net/trace/pad.
I closed and reopened my project and now all my traces are gone!?

Can anyone tell me what I did (wrong)? Are my traces really gone or just hidden...?

It isn't too dramatic, the traces were a bus routed between 4 memory ICs so its very easy to recreate. I just want to know what I did so I know what to do next time...

Thanx,
Marc

Corrupt?  Are you being given a dialog message or are you surmising this?  Has kicad saved any backup copies in the same folder as your project (may be as hidden files)?  Give as much information as you can.

RE not seeing tracks: you may have disabled the visibility of these layers.  By default kicad has a list of layers on the right hand side the pcbnew window.  There are two tabs; try ticking everything under both.

Just when I pasted in the error text I noticed the 2013 reference in path.

When installing 4 I got a warning that the older version would get overwritten - which I answered with OK (or yes).

Seems that the version 4 installer is not fail safe. Better to abort installation I think.

I uninstalled 4, removed all remaining references to KiCad manually (Program Files (x86)) and reinstalled.

An yes, the files load fine. It was an old version of the file parser that was used which did not know the new grid_origin keyword.

And yes, I had somehow de-checked the layer. pfff should have known that one.

Anyway, thanks, your response sparked the path to success.  :-+
