Title: Symbol pin number below pin instead of above?
Post by: SiliconWizard on September 11, 2022, 02:10:23 am
Running into something pretty annoying there. I'm modifying an existing symbol. The pin numbers are all below the pin line instead of above for all other symbols I'm using. I can't figure out why. If I create another pin on this particular symbol, same, the pin number appears below the line. What gives? It doesn't do that for all other symbols I've tried.

Any idea?

OK answering my own question if anyone's interested. That's explained there: https://forum.kicad.info/t/pin-number-is-displayed-below-its-pin-why/8911

It's just that the option "place pin names inside" was not checked (probably because pin names exist but are not shown on this symbol.) And don't try to find this option on the pin dialog, it's a symbol-wide option in the symbol properties dialog. Yeah. ::)

There is a separate option for not showing them. If the latter is checked, I don't think the former makes any sense, and even less so that it should have any impact on where the pin numbers appear, but apparently everyone is happy because this has been there for at least 5 years. ;D

So anyway. Just check the "place pin names inside" when you don't want to show pin names. It will show pin numbers above the line. As usual. Don't ask.
