0805 Cap, resistor, or ferrite bead

Hi,
An 0805 resistor is the same size as an 0805 cap...so why do all companies have separate footprints for 0805 caps and resistors etc?

Because 0805 only describes the outside dimension, not the recommended pad size. Resistors and capacitors have different soldering recommendations.

And another side benefit is that you can assign a 3D model corresponding to the actual component type.

Capacitors are usually taller. If you google you can find hundreds of discussions about this.
