any experience with Jotrin Electronics Ltd. of Shenzhen?
« on: December 27, 2022, 05:46:48 pm »
Hello,
has anybody bought ICs from Jotrin Electronics Ltd. of Shenzhen?
They have a Xilinx chip I need for a sane price, but I hear so many horror stories I wanted to see if anyone has experience with them.
Thanks,
Jon

There are many, many scams around components. My advice is - don't do it! Risk to be scammed is very high.

This said, I found Taobao to be OK. Because they aim at local customers only, so scamming is much more difficult.

You're best to work with a broker you either can trust or someone has vouched for. I can recommend June at Keming Electronics. We've tried to avoid grey market as much as possible but where there has been no other choice June has been great at helping us find quality stock at realistic prices. This far everything she has supplied has passed qualification when we received them.

I got counterfeit Maxxim CAN controller ICs from a broker in Germany. Worst part - they worked during our tests - but not in the extended customers tests -20 to +70°C for 24 hours. They refunded the ICs, I still lost 50,000 in damage, only - and that was really lucky!

Well, yeah, the only way you can guarantee it is to purchase from an authorised distributor with traceable provenance. Unfortunately these days this simply isn't always possible when the only authorised option is a 72 week (or worse!) lead time. You do as much qualification as you're comfortable with.

Maxim parts are traditionally pretty notorious for counterfeits though, so I'd consider them particularly high risk.

I mainly used direct authorized agent, or Digikey etc. But even many years ago delivery times where always an issue. The CAN controller IC was quite obscure. I did not expect. Was very clearly to see under X-Ray (different dice size and leadframe)

Strangely, customer had some years before me with a different supplier the same problem, with the same IC. Final product went into the field, result was a 7 figure claim.

I have bought from them before. They are good to deal with.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

Whew, Thanks Nico!  I was starting to get worried.  I placed the order and hope the chips work OK.  I may have to re-design the board for a newer chip, but would like to have more time to test the update.
Thanks,
Jon

And, I got the tray of chips from Jotrin, they were professionally packed.  I put one on a board by hand but had a solder blob shorting Vcore to VIO, and it eventually fried the FPGA.  So, I had to repeat the test, then it all worked fine.  Now, I am setting up to do a production run.

hi, a little bit suggest, next time maybe you can try ESCROW service via ICSOURCE or NETCOMPOENTS, normall cost 250u/order.

Neither buyer or supplier have account with them can start it, can offer NET 5-15 days for ur full testing result.

xilinx has more fake parts than new and orginal one on China market, u must have superrrr qualified QC or ESCROW shall be safer for ur condition
