Any Siemens/Mentor Valor Process Preparation users on the forums?

Anybody here who uses Valor Process Preparation for programming pick-and-place equipment? Hoping to find other users to commiserate with. We acquired three Assembleon/Philips AX-201 pick-and-place machines last year for dirt cheap. Like $1,500 + freight for the lot, cheap. The catch was that we needed to purchase Valor to be able to program them. That's a USD$23,000 software package with a $2,000/year subscription for VPL (Valor parts library). I both love, and hate, this software. The learning curve was monumental. I self-taught because the training was thousands of dollars more. It can generate flawless programs for any machine on the market with under an hour's worth of work. It used to take me an entire day to create a program for our Emerald Xii machine, plus sticky tape dry runs and endless goof-ups. Anybody getting by without using a VPL subscription? I tried setting up a program once without it, and it appears to be almost impossible, by design. It grinds my gears that they made it this way with the intention of forcing you into a VPL subscription. Anyone relate?
