Are there any standards for outdoor physical plugin modules?
« on: April 06, 2024, 09:37:19 am »
I'm building an outdoor monitoring system that collects data from multiple wired sensors.
Rather than build everything into one big box (and then find there are problems), I'd like to build it in stages using some kind of plugin type module that connects to a common power supply and data bus for communication.

I sort of imagine outdoor modules looking something like this indoor module, with a robust octal plug, plus some kind of weather seal.

Do things like this exist? My Google search skills aren't finding anything.

I've not seen that, but nothing is stopping you from using whatever waterproof connector you like (circular, or square automotive type) and integrating it into the housing/module. Assuming its not too heavy or you can use some other mechanical support for it. One issue is you'd want a waterproof cap to cover any unused module connectors on the main unit.
