Good Source of Quality Electronic Components
« on: March 14, 2019, 12:23:04 am »
I'm in the process of doing circuit boards recapping, transistor change ...etc. I'm looking for an online source to buy electronic components (mostly capacitors and transistors), Quality components is important but prices should be reasonable. I don't want to buy locally for $2 a capacitor.
Any reputable online seller? It don't matter if ebay, amazon or own website.

Also can anyone tel me what is the modern equivalent for these Sony vintage transistors?

I buy most of my stuff from Digi-Key, because their search engine is so good.  But, lately, they are out of stock on a lot of stuff.
Specifically for capacitors, though, Mouser is very good, offering a wider selection of larger electrolytics and better prices.
I should mention I'm a small manufacturer of industrial gear, and mostly do not do repair of consumer-grade stuff.

For recapping motherboards, I have bought "kits" off eBay.  Not really kits, just a bag of 20 or so of some particular low-ESR capacitor.

http://www.digikey.com/ is the best store, easy to search, buy, very fast free shipping.

http://www.mouser.com/ is also very good, but there might be problems with backordering and such, packaging is often not as good as in DigiKey.

http://www.futureelectronics.com/ often has the best prices, but not many parts in stock. There's no parametric search and shipping takes a little bit longer.

There are many others ...

The problem is the part numbers I'm looking for are obsolete and I can't seem to find two sources agrees on an equivalent part number, And most of them are out of spec.

Sources won't agree because they will be cherry picking the properties they want to to match, often these will be a good match for other people too, but if whatever your working on requires a very specific property a direct swap may not be an option & you might need to change some other parts, fit it backwards etc to get somewhere close.

While the data isn't always accurate, using parametric search facilities on a site like mouser is still easier than the old leaf through massive catalogs of transistors.

It's my experience that if you ask on the chinese grey dealer market you will get many new friends very quickly, and they will write to you about all different topics. :blah:
I still get valentine cards from about 20 of them ... and it doesn't even have to be in February.  :palm:
You should never go down on equipment!

I have the same problem with china spam.

Does anyone know of any component dealer in Chicago?  We run out of small components from time to time and I hate airing them from MN or Texas.  Would prefer to find a local supplier and have them match prices.

This website https://alltransistors.com/crsearch.php?mat=Si&struct=PNP&pc=0.25&ucb=50&uce=50&ueb=5&ic=0.2&tj=125&ft=70&cc=10&hfe=250&caps=SOT33 have a rich database when it comes to old stuff but often their equivalent part #'s are outdated too, But at least it gives me the spec of the transistor I'm looking for. According to their help topic on how to choose a replacement -see link below- they're saying Cc - collector junction capacity: the lower the better and everything else equal or higher the better, I have yet to find a transistor with Cc equal or lower and other values equal or higher. If I ignore Cc I can find a perfect match but Cc will be way higher. Is Cc important like they said?

Sorry for resurrecting the old post.

In Europe TME could be used. They have affordable shipping option. Although nomenclature of available components/parts is rather limited.
