Arrgh! another discontinued product!
« on: October 23, 2017, 08:36:21 pm »
I use some right-angle, PCB mount HD 15-pin D connectors on some boards I make.  I just got notified that TE connectivity seems to be dropping the whole line of these connectors, leaving VERY few options.  TE had very good prices for low quantity, like about $150 - $1.75 each in quantity = 10.  Now, it looks like the VERY few other options will be $4 - 5 each, if I can even get them.  I have looked at Digi-Key, Mouser, Newark (whose search options for this are atrocious) and Allied.   Newark might have something, but I'd have to go to the paper catalog to find anything.

Anybody know of another source?

That is definitely what I'm looking for, but I'm in the US.  Is Toby the distributor or the manufacturer?

Thanks!

Toby are a distributor, however they do have very good prices and will sell to you no matter where you are. :)

I have always been able to get a good supply of samples from them.

Well, there are so many hassles involved in ordering things from UK/Europe/Asia etc. that I'd much rather stay with US distributors unless there is no other way.

But, thanks all for the pointers to other makers, this will help a lot.

I really don't consider Jameco as a "distributor".  I think of them more as a surplus outlet, but I guess they have some lines they have carried for a long time.  But, most of their items seem to come and go.  I want stuff I can order from a stocking distributor for some years into the future.  With these right-angle PCB D-style connectors, there are some variations in the hole pattern on the PCB, and I don't want to have to check datasheets in detail every time I order a batch, to make sure the mounting holes match the board layout.  (These things DO seem to be getting more standardized over time, though.)

I do buy small power supplies from them.  They are good for that!

THANKS MUCH!  That's exactly what I was looking for.  For some odd reason, those did NOT show up when I did a parametric search.  What I got was some extremely expensive mil-spec parts, all the TE discontinued items and not a whole lot else.  Usually, Digi-Key's search works VERY well.
