Good binding posts
« on: July 02, 2021, 02:11:02 am »
I want to get myself decent binding posts for a project. They would be screwed onto PCB. It would be one-off so anything $10 or lower would do. I know what good binding post looks like when I see it. However, this is the first time buying one myself and I have no idea what manufacturer is good as all binding posts I used were part of devices.

Any good recommendations?

PS: Availability on DigiKey would be preferred but not mandatory.

PPS: My research brought me to:

I was also looking at Mueller BU-P4243-0 (https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/mueller-electric-co/BU-P4243-0/5448996) but I saw on forum that people are complaining about quality (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/metrology/low-thermal-emf-binding-posts-a-quality-warning/) so skipping them for now.

I do not have any complaints about the panel mount version of the Cinch parts that you linked; I used them to replace some broken binding posts on a Tektronix power supply.  I would trust anything from Pomona or Cinch.

After posting here, Pomona posts went out of stock on DigiKey. |O
Not saying somebody here sniped them but... ;)

Consider using LowThermal binding posts:

I have drawers full of salvaged binding posts.  They cost no money.  In fact I am in the midst of a project that requires some and am almost done with it.  The curious thing about salvaged parts is that, while searching for something that can do the job, you find lots of interesting other stuff, some of which makes you rethink the current project.

I like the Cliff binding posts. Because they take a 4mm hole in the PCB you can also poke a banana plug straight into the hole in the PCB when the binding post is not mounted.

Keystone 7016 and 7017 are quite good (Au plated, chunky insulators suitable for fat fingers), available at Mouser. I used them recently on an audio amplifier build.

Any one came across bananna plugs similar to the ones used in tektronix power supplies?
