Quad QSA30 / Samsung CP30 SMEMA function
« on: December 19, 2023, 12:10:02 am »
I have a Quad QSA30A P&P machine, built by Samsung on the base of their CP30 model.  It is very similar to the CP30, and runs the same software, except that it has Quad electronic feeders and Quad alignment cameras.  But, I have never gotten the SMEMA connectors to function properly.  I can get the machine to assemble 2 boards, but then it stalls when the 2nd board is completed, and you have to hit reset twice to release the second board.  Somehow, it doesn't accept the fact that the board has been picked up from the output side of the conveyor.  I have added a manual switch to the SMEMA output connector, and can see that the switch is detected in the I/O display, but it makes no difference.
I'd be fine with running without the SMEMA interface, and just have it continue when the output optical sensor shows the board has been picked up.
Has anybody ever worked out what settings need to be made in the config files?
Thanks,
Jon

I recall in our MPM stencil printer (and probably the Yamaha placers too) settings for different SMEMA standards/modes. Does the Quad have anything like that in the settings?

Hmmm, I don't think so.  There is a .ini file that just has the line:  Smema=1
I will try different settings there, now that I have a manual switch connected to the SMEMA connector.

Well, it is pretty crazy, but I solved it!  There was a cryptic reference in the Q-Tips file (Internal service engineer bulletin)  that the labels on the SMEMA connectors were confusing.  I tried connecting my manual switch to the INPUT connector, instead of OUTPUT.  Now, it works, the board stops at the conveyor output sensor and stopper, and when you trip the switch it drops the stopper and starts the conveyor to send the board out.

I had a similar weird one with my cyberoptics gear,  that some of my machines used relay smema and some had opto couplers.  The relays aren't sensitive to pin polarity but the optos are.
