Low Volume Assembly Houses in Australia?

Can anyone suggest a company that's economical for small jobs in Australia. Batch sizes would usually only be 100 or so. Mostly SM, but nothing too fine. 0805 and low pin count TQFP and SOIC. Sockets are through hole.

I don't mind going overseas as long as the company has good communication.

I run a business in the UK specializing in short run PCB assembly - runs of 50-200 are the usual order size I receive.

I've read your thread here. The other side of the world may not be practical, especially if I need to send you the components, but I'll keep it in mind.

Certainly a price range, but these are always very price sensitive. I'll often end up doing small batches myself. The pictures in my first post are previous projects and just representative.

I don't mind either way. Whatever works out most economical.

It might be worth giving Electro Cad in Adelaide a call - (08) 8260 8999. I am not sure about pricing, but I can tell you the work they do there is top-notch (I once worked for them developing some interfacing software).

100qty is the sort of volume that good for hand soldering.
I used to use Vutronics in Melbourne (one-man-band in his garage) for my uWatch and uCurent boards. No setup fee, just fixed price per board.

As an estimate, that top board would probably cost no more than $5/board to hand assemble.

For automated assembly, I've used Ramzonics for my uCurrent

For 100qty, the setup fees of machine assembly probably aren't worth it. e.g. $300 stencil, machine setup fee, + extra hand soldering.
The setup fee alone would likely pay for your whole job to be hand assembled.

Yes, (lack of) communication is their biggest problem.

Just a quick P.S. on this thread:

I've *just* had a handful of PCBs come back from Vutronics in Melbourne, my first time with them.

The design phase took a month longer than expected, and being a first-time customer with Vutronics when I sent him the kit & doco on Monday this week, I didn't think I'd get them back this side of Christmas.  But I did!  Dzung dropped everything, postponed existing work into his weekend, and completed my boards in 48 hours - a fantastic effort, and I'm ever so grateful.  The boards look great (so far! testing hasn't started yet, but by the looks of it any issues are likely to be mine .

So my first time experience with Vutronics is 10/10.
