MPM Momentum vs Accela?
« on: February 11, 2023, 03:42:15 am »
I recently came across a good offer for both the MPM Momentum (2008 model) and MPM Accela (2006 model). MPM Accela costs $2,000 cheaper, but both machines are in good working condition.

I note the Accela seems to be an older machine than the Momentum but twice as heavy, weighing in at 2tons vs only ~1ton for the MPM Momentum.

Which one is the better quality machine and better deal? Momentum or Accela?

The Acella is heavier than that... I've got one.  It's a very nice bit of kit. I bought a used one from Chicago and it was a lot of work to get it working.  It was sold "in excellent condition" but I would make sure to see it print boards. Mine had a servo controller that was dodgy when it arrived. Turns out a little bit of soldering fixed it but it took a long time to find that out. Also check what tooling / work holding they have with them.  The inspection is very fast and very good.  The calibration procedures are quite easy,  the paste dispensing is very good.  It's very easy to use / program.  I had a broken input board sensor but that was a $50 fix.  I also had a broken air filter when it arrived. I spent maybe a few $100 to get it all working.  Mine had printed a few million panels and I think it's got a few million left.

Mine was work to get working but now it's pretty lovely.  It's giant, heavy and all the insides are top quality parts. It's fast and staging is handy.
