Multitool for kerbside motorcycle wiring repair
« on: January 08, 2025, 03:54:24 pm »
Are there any multitools that have a decent wire stripper (for automotive size cable), knife and pliers (and maybe a screwdriver and bits for terminal fastening) that can be used to repair broken wires on a motorcycle at the kerbside. I have a 12v soldering iron already. I've often thought of buying a Leatherman or similar tool, but have never really convinced myself that I need one. Can anyone recommend such a tool? Thanks.

first aid, I would prepare a soldering iron and solder, a knife and pliers, about 1m of 18 gauge wire, and wrench(8-15mm).
won't need a stripper, a knife will suffice. its just bulky.

G'day djsb,

Have a look at Swiss Army Knives.

Maybe a pen knife, lighter, and those solder tube things the telecoms mob like? I wouldn't fancy serious electrical work by the roadside, invariably in the cold and wet.
You could also try asking Bike Chat Forums?

If you're having regular roadside problems you need real tools for, are you riding a Harley?

Not a Harley rider. Riding a 411 Himalayan (when weather permits here in the cold and wet UK)and thought it's best to be prepared. I try to make sure any potential electrical gremlins are squashed beforehand. I've probably been watching too many Itchy boots video's.
