Ordering Direct from Microchip Using Business Credit Account
« on: March 09, 2022, 02:36:49 am »
Hi guys,

I have always been ordering from Microchip using my credit card. But, with the ever postponement of shipment of parts during this time, I started to use their 30 days credit payment term upon shipment. So, they sent me an invoice with some payment instruction. After paying, it doesn't seem to me at least in Malaysia there is a way to notify them that I have paid. The phone line they asked SEA region customer to call went unanswered and all their emails address are marked as do not reply. I have tried leaving messages on their website form but I never get a single reply for the past few years.

Have anyone here bought they same way on Microchip's website especially if you are from the SEA region?

My company has an export factory based in Shenzhen, China. We have a few projects this year using microchip parts so I finally signed up for the business account at microchipdirect.com. A representative from mainland China got in touch with us right away and they've been very responsive so far as we have about 50,000 chips on order. If they were not so responsive, I'd be worried about paying them.

The thing is, they do shipped the order which I have already received. Previously when using a credit card, it will be billed on the spot at the time of order. Now with a credit account, when they shift the shipment date, I won't be billed. I just wait and see, maybe after the 30 day credit expires, they might call me instead.

I signed up for a MD business account last year as I've been buying larger quantities and struggling with the long lead times.

I am in Australia and have paid all my invoices by T/T which adds an extra $10 bank fee per payment.  As shipments occasionally get split, having the extra fee is annoying so with my last payment which totaled under $200 I combined two invoices and I can see they recorded fine as paid.  I prefer how Mouser and Digikey accounts offer local AUD bank details for payment, especially as T/T is also a bit more complex to process.

They've been pretty bad at responding to sales support inquiries via the web forms, but the chat has worked fine although as with most chat systems it can be a bit time consuming to go through all the back and forth and please wait...

I did have one weird email from them confirming my relationship with the company, maybe because my bank will list my name rather than the company name against T/Ts.

$10 is cheap for TT. Here in Malaysia I had to pay MYR10 ($2.50) for local bank fee and another unknown $30-40 fee that is usually charged by a middle bank sitting in between the bank here and Microchip's Taiwan bank. And yes, there's zero communication from Microchip. I had an inquiry to check the silicon batch of their stock but hear nothing from them. And on older orders using credit card, the delivery dates kept moving forward and forward for few months, and yes there's no one reply to my inquiry on that. Hence, I started using their credit line instead. So, if they received the money, the record will change to "paid", I will keep an eye on that. They still didn't pick up the phone.

It'll change from "Invoiced" to "Invoice Paid" on the list of the orders. This may happen the same day as they receive the money, or it may take couple weeks. I wouldn't worry about this. It's unpredictable.

I was able to call them once when an urgent order was delayed. Looks like the person I spoke to was in the US and she simply emailed to their Thailand office. The order did get shipped the next day.

None of my email inquires helped - I tried to ask them to ship FedEx instead of DHL, or to ship all at once. They may ship, like, 5 chips today and the rest tomorrow, which sounds, for the lack of a better word, very inefficient. My emails about this yielded no response and made no difference.

Many people report difficulties in contacting Microchip -- unlike the days when you could just call Chandler.

The tech service area still seems to work, but you have to do it by email and start with getting a service request number.  Response is 1 to 2 days.  Although order problems my not be considered by everyone to be "technical,"  I don't think it is much of a stretch to consider them that.  At the very least, the service request number may help open doors.  I would try that.

My payments are applied automatically to my account, if I use my account number as the payment reference.

For the EU I also, as requested by them, send a remittance advice to AccountsReceivableEurope (at) microchip.com and I suspect there are similar addresses for other business areas.

Mine is already 1 week. Status didn't change or inquiry replied. I used invoice number as reference. Maybe I should use account number as reference next time. Microchip many many years back probably has the best customer support. That was the day when they shipped samples in their black plastic anti static box.

I think they still supply samples. Their support was excellent 10 years ago. But since then things deteriorated. Not only in Microchip. Everywhere.
