parts not coming out of component tape
« on: December 27, 2024, 05:00:22 pm »
Hello,
I just did a couple boards on my P&P machine, and had HUGE problems with the parts not coming out of the tape.  These are 0.1 uF and 1.0 uF 0603 parts.  When I went to manually finish the assembly, I was having a lot of trouble picking parts out of the tape with a mouth-opearted  vacuum hose.  It seems maybe the pocket in the tape is too small for the part to come out easily.  Has anyone else seen this kind of issue?  I will have to check and make sure there are no air leaks in the vacuum system.
Thanks,
Jon

The pocket in the tape should be about 30-50% larger than the component (roughly if you look at them, actual spec varies). If the pockets are too small, the manufacturer has fucked up.

What is the MPN and where did you get them from?

The 0.1 uF is a TDK part I have had for some years, the 1.0 uF is one I just got a few weeks ago from Digi-Key, made by Taiyo Yuden.
These pockets are not really 30-50% larger than the part, but they are not so snug that they ought to be preventing the part from lifting.
Anyway, the 0.1 uF part that I have had for a while fed just FINE on my old machine.  But, it had different nozzles than my new machine.  I have a choice of really small nozzles or ones just a bit bigger.  I will try the next size up nozzle next time.  Also, next time I have the machine fired up I will check the nozzle vacuum, just in case there's an air leak.
Thanks,
Jon
