PCB Pins
« on: January 18, 2023, 12:56:26 am »
Hi all,

I have a small project which will be used to replace an old 0.3" DIP ROM IC. The circuit board is just a little bigger than the original IC and it needs to be soldered into the original PCB or plugged into an IC socket.

Does anyone know if there are pins available that can be soldered to the replacement board to mimic IC pins?

cheers

Tony

I tried IDC pins, but they are too thick for insertion into IC sockets. I tried some machine pins also, but the ones I tried have shoulders machined into them and hold the board too high off the original. There are also some with molded ends that slide over the PCB, which after soldering, you can then bend the pins to right angles, but then the pin width across the board moves out to 0.4" or more, so not suitable.

The pins must be around, I've seen pre-assembled boards on the web that have them, I just haven't been able to find similar.

cheers

Are these what you meant?

Those go onto the edge of a board, so you do need to design for them.

Otherwise, thin machined pins or those nifty ones in Infraviolet’s post.
