Red Lion panel meter MDMV0000
jmelson:
Not sure where to put this. Red Lion Controls made a little LCD panel meter that had some symbols that could be turned on by shorting a couple pins on the back. I used them in some custom power supplies for an ASIC system we built. Red Lion no longer makes that module. I have a few I managed to get on eBay, but will soon run out.
Does anyone know of a small LCD panel meter that can be put into a custom panel with a bezel, and has switchable A and V symbols that can be activated dynamically? The unit is about 1 x 1.75" on the outside of the bezel.
Thanks,
Jon

Well, that is just a display, I'd need to add a micro and an ADC. More trouble than just getting a panel voltmeter.
But, I might have to go that route.

phil from seattle:
I don't have an off the shelf suggestion for you but think making one is a good idea. pretty easy to make with a fairly cheap 8 bit micro. I've been toying with using an ATTiny - $0.75-ish though am sure I could find cheaper if I worked at it. Ammeter, Voltmeter, maybe other functions like message display. 2 or 3 dip switches to set function. Haven't found a display I really like, though. Another idea is to use a serial port to customize the display (label, units, maybe polling frequency, filtering etc).
I have designed backpacks for the current chinese off the shelf panel Volt/Amp and Ammeters. Described here. They have a standard size opening and don't look terrible. But I would like to be better able to customize them.
Proto:
Amazon has a good selection of digital panel meters for voltage, current and combinations thereof for AC and DC. Some have a short list of selectable unit annunciators. I am currently using a combo digital panel meter for ACV in a power line box for 220 and 50A which comes with a current transformer. Take a look at Amazon for you AC or DC panel meter requirements.
