I need to buy 3 smema cables as I'm adding some new bits to my line. Does anyone know a good & cheap source? If not, is there an affordable tool that works well for crimping multi mate connectors?

It’s impossible to recommend a specific tool when there are dozens of different contacts in that product line:
https://www.te.com/commerce/DocumentDelivery/DDEController?Action=showdoc&DocId=Specification+Or+Standard%7F408-1379%7FE%7Fpdf%7FEnglish%7FENG_SS_408-1379_E.pdf%7F201611-1
If you need reliable crimps, you should use genuine AMP/TE tools. I would buy a ratty-looking used genuine tool rather than a shiny AliExpress crimp tool any day. Look up the exact contact you need in that list, and look it up on the TE website, too: they often list obsolete tools, too, which can be even cheaper used.
