T-962 mods- sealing, baffles and air stirrer
« on: November 13, 2023, 11:02:37 pm »
Greetings-

Has anyone tried any of the mods that Jerry Walker discussed in his T-962 upgrade videos on youtube?  This is the only one that seems to try and look at the issues in a systematic manner to analyze and correct the problems.

Link- last video, quasi summary. There are 6 total.

If you watch all 6 of the videos, his approach is quite analytic and breaks down the individual issues and his solutions to the problem. He has the proper gear to check stuff too- multi-channel temps, thermocouple temp calibration, etc…

He solution was to :
  • essentially sealed all the holes of the oven chamber, add a strip to seal the drawer better,
  • added narrow baffles under each of the heaters to prevent a small region from getting heated directly under the heater tubes,
  • added a baffle to the cooling fan at the rear to divert the air from blowing directly to the center of the drawer/boards,
  • an air 'stirrer' at the top,
  • and relocated the thermocouples.
No firmware mods, no cold junction components, no nothing.

His graphs and discussion seem to be logical and the solutions well founded.

I am hoping to find someone who has tried this approach and get their feedback.

Anyone try any of this?

thanks
