What desoldering station/iron shoud I buy?
« on: December 11, 2023, 05:37:08 pm »
I am a hobbyist solderer/maker and I would really like a desoldering sation/iron.
I want something that will last a long time.
I already have a Hakko FX-888D and a pretty good fume extractor.

It should not cost too much.

I am in Canada so I have to deal with stupid currency exchange and shipping problems.

(Not that i don't like canada or anything, it's awsome)

Desoldering vacuum iron? I have the Pro'sKit SS-331.
Cheap thing from China but works really well. Sits next to my Hakko. Use it all the time on a commercial level.

As for hot air, I have the ATTEN ST-862D. Again, another solid bit of kit.
Used it for about 4 hours today already.

Is it reliable and long-lasting?

I have heard about filter isues for other stations.
Do the filters work okay?

Used metcal.  If it's 20 years old you've still got 50 years left.  New thermaltronics. Other decent brands used are often a pretty good deal too.
