Yes, he did, and its wonderful to hear someone who isn't taken in by all the bullshit around Tesla.  He actually claimed that not only could he visualise every part of a working machine, assemble them in his head, he actually said he could run the machine in his head and then inspect the parts for wear!

When I read that I realised that his more extreme claims may not be entirely reliable.....

Yep, there's certainly a cult around Tesla (Nikola, not the EV), with lotsa devoted fanbois and gurls. I think of him as highly intelligent but a borderline nutcase.
