To correctly seat a motor shaft connector of B system taper
« on: December 28, 2022, 03:47:38 pm »
I'm noob in taper connection system so patiently me help out

How do we correctly seat a B taper connector (most commonly B12, B16, B18) into its chuck mate in such that if there's no left-handed bolt fastening axially in center it's still quite viable and reliable?

it's just a press by our muscled hand, put weigh on top of connector after insertion, hit it gently or etc ?
Thanks much in advance

It's normal to give the chuck (jaws retracted) a tap with a wooden mallet to fully seat it.

Normally the taper should hold just on the taper and a whack. You can give it a bit extra by putting the taper in the fridge first and heating the chuck on somethig warm (but not too hot).

If either of the faces is worn or damaged, first remove any burs, and maybe add a dab of loctite, but it should not be needed in normal circumstances.
