Stepperonline VFD Drive (single- to three-phase)[SOLVED]
« on: July 22, 2023, 05:22:19 pm »
The first two VFD drives I installed more than 20 years ago on 3-phase motors were simple and instructions were clear.  I now have a Stepperonline EV200 Series VFD and find the "manual" is a bit hard to follow.  There are a lot of settings available, but descriptions are meager.  Manual is attached as pdf.

The main hurdle I am facing is getting an external potentiometer to control speed.  It is attached as shown in the first attachment (wiring diagram) but apparently needs to be enabled by a program setting.  Which one?  (See: Manual) (Remote start and stop have been enabled.)

A second less pressing question is in regard to the terminals labeled TA and TC.  TA is an external fault output. But, what does a switched connection between that and TC actually do?  The manual refers to a "relay" there exactly once and without explanation.  Can that relay be used to create a latching "on" switch where Off simply interrupts power to a relay maintaining the latch, as is standard machine practice, rather than use a maintained contact SPST switch?  NB: You can turn the motor attached to the VFD off with the Off/Reset switch while the run switch is still on, but a push button for the Run/On function does not maintain the On state.

Got the remote pot to work.  P0-03 was set wrong.  It needs to the set to 2.  Sill have no idea what J4 jumper is, nor any of the other jumpers mentioned for that matter.

As for the second part of my question, I cannot find any mention of how to make the external Run switch latching, except for the lack of any information on the aforementioned relay and jumpers.  P4-11 is undefined as best I can tell.  That is, a default is not defined.  However the mention of "2 lines" and "3 lines" might be translated as 2 wire and 3 wire.  If one stretches the meaning that far, then maybe P4-11 refers to a latching circuit.

Another solution would be to add an external relay.  The wiring diagram for TC says  something about 24VDC at 2.5A, which would be plenty for a standard LV control relay.  Does anyone know what that terminal really does?  The"120VAC/250VAC 5A" above it worries me.  Guess I could measure it, but I am hoping another user knows the answers.

I heard from Stepperonline this morning.  As for TA/TC here is the response:
Quote
Source = Stepperonline]
1. The VFD'S S1 series terminals, all must be high level or low level models, do not support along the edge of the model.
2. Relay TA TB TC is the intermediate relay function. For example: TA is connected to +24V, while P5-02 is set to 2 (alarm output). If the inverter alarm, TA and TC conductive output +24V, TA and TB disconnect.
3. About one three-wire wiring method and parameter setting as the photo attached, we will send you the second three-wire wiring method later.

I have attached that wiring diagram to this post.  If you visit Stepperonline's site, check the V70 series.  The documentation for those controllers is better, and I have passed that suggestion on to Stepperonline.

As for its customer service, I couldn't ask for more.  The agent I worked with was pleasant and always helpful.  Her English was as good as mine, and her responses were always timely.  I am not sure whether she is located in the US or China, but my technical questions were usually answered by early the next morning.  I suspect she had to communicated with China.

Maybe Googleaniacs will find it here.

Regards, John

EDIT:  Be sure to follow the "S" numbers as in the table.  They do not correspond to the "SB" numbers.

Update:
Tested that wiring diagram, and it works, but S3 must be maintained on, i.e., low, before choosing direction.  The direction buttons then work as expected, i.e., a negative edge starts in the desired direction.  Stop requires disabling S3.  I'll may need to setup a latch on the stop switch on my machine so its default is low, i.e., NC.

It may already be that way.  I just haven't dug into its wiring (I rewired the entire machine in 1984 and don't remember.  It has full voltage magnetic controls.)
