Why we hate engineers (Machining)

Point #5. Have a machinist or former machinist run the orifice.

Whilst it seems like it can be a good idea, what tends to happen is the wrong people on the floor fail upwards.

beanflying:
There are worse things than Mechanical Design Engineers and that is Consulting Engineers as a species :palm:

As they don't work day to day within the company they are in theory doing the project for the above video stops way short of the level of stupid unless the company themselves is in overall control which of course then defeats the purpose of hiring a Consulting Eng. to do the job :-DD

There are an occasional exceptions to the rule where they have worked for or in very closely associated businesses but in the main just another layer of  :bullshit: and cost overruns and more interested in getting paid for billable hours than completion.

Generally the best Engineers are the ones who started on the floor with a broom in hand.

Also think about maintenance, like the auto mechanic who has to disassemble half the engine to replace a simple part like a water pump gasket.

Blame accounting, who said to do it as cheap as possible, and that if it saved 2c on assembly to have that water pump gasket be buried in the engine, they will do it, and take 1c of that saving over the product life as bonus.
