Hi Ian
I am running Ver 3.26 logger. When I print out the screenshots saved via the chart screen, the black background almost completely obliterates the graph lines.
Is there a way to get a printer friendly output on paper?

PS
The screenshot does not capture the PPM scale on the RHS

I fixed a screenshot bug a few Revs back where it wasn't capturing everything on screen. I'll look at the PPM scale.
I'll see if I can offer different colours for the chart so they print better.

New version in Post #1 available for download.
WinGPIB_V3_114_full.zip - Fresh install
WinGPIB_V3_114_updated_exe.zip - Updated exe to replace existing
[Virus scanned using BitDefender AntiVirus]

I have added a checkbox per below to toggle the PlayBack Chart graph background from dark to light. This should assist in printing screenshots.
I have also verified that the PPM scale is captured correctly on screenshots.

Small adjustment to make the Y-scale interval match the Y-scale grid on the PlayBack Chart.

On the 'Light' mode of the PlayBack Chart I have made more of the background white so the whole form can be printed more easily.

Hi Ian
Thanks for the quick response to my screen shot problem.
I did a fresh install of WinGPIB_V3_116_full.zip and ran into program running problems.
Running the desktop shortcut WinGPIB.exe immediately gives the attached error.
If I ignore the run error, I can create a device but the data log/csv window is totally unresponsive.

The path on the pop up, make sure it exists and there is a log.csv file in that location. Create it manually if you have to.
A few folks have had this error and creating the path manually and popping the file in there usually fixes it.

I have re-written the PlayBack Chart X-Axis labels (that show the minutes).
This was quite a re-write and now uses the built in MSChart X-Axis labels rather than my home grown ones.
As such, they are now located at the bottom of the graph and tie in better with the chart grid.
Making it work with the zoom buttons and the dual device CSV was quite a feat....for me anyways!.....it reminds my why I did the home grown version originally!

I also tidied up the display form, code and fixed some bugs, all related to the PlayBack Chart.

Small bug fix, the PPM scale on the PlayBack Chart wasn't lining up properly with the main chart area.
This is still a home grown scale due to limitations of the MSChart scale functionality.

A bit of PlayBack Chart code optimization & tidy up resulting in slightly faster loading CSV files.

When you're not a Pro coder it's too easy to repeat code all over the place and to do things a little long winded!

Ian,
I tried to use this with a USBGPIB ("xypro"s, I think), and was not able to make it recognized by the program. Are there plans to integrate it into the app?

Or maybe there are solutions for that already I am not aware of.

Hi,

WinGPIB is a layer above the necessary GPIB driver layer, therefore you need drivers loaded for it to work.

- VISA
- GBIP:ADlink
- GPIB-488
- COM port

The most common being VISA and on Windows you would need the Keysight IO Libraries Suite installed.
Generally, get a GPIB interface working with it's own driver suite, test comms to a connected DUT and once working then try WinGPIB.

I've kinda generalised as I am not sure what USBGPIB you are referring to.

for the xypro's  usb gpib

there was a case of name declaration v6 ....  which i did complain about to make it work with some prologix tools,  it was my case,  just changed the id declaration and started to work on a 34410a,  but i don't have it anymore, i'm waiting for an hioki   ....

https://www.eevblog.com/forum/projects/ar488-arduino-based-gpib-adapter/msg4512557/#msg4512557         post #878 or around it

you can use Rhode Schwartz visa tools  (RS_VISA_Setup_Win_5_12_10.exe)  too instead of the keysight ones  ...  lightweight and  you have tester 32 and 64 bit  to help you do some communications tests ....

Q: for the creator,  is it possible to start it with only 1 instrument / device  instead of 2 ???   is there a setting ??   it's been a while  since i used this software

Yes, you can start either DEV1 or DEV2 or both. Look at the main screen and you'll see option buttons for these.

"CONNECT TO I/O DEVICE 1"
"CONNECT TO I/O DEVICE 2"
"CONNECT TO I/O DEVICES 1 & 2"

Hi,

The app size is fixed I am afraid. I could 'cheat' and allow re-sizing thus hiding parts of teh GUI, but it's not reall a good way.
I can probably lose about 6% of it's width only if I tried.

Have made the main GUI slightly smaller (width) to help fitting on low res screens.
Not by much mind you, but every little helps.

There are two bugs:
1/ Live Chart TAB SCREEN
when Y-axis scale max is same as Y-axis min, the trend will stop until program restarts.
2/When the text scaling on the monitor is greater than 100%, all text cannot be displayed properly.
by the way,Can you share the communication protocol for temperature  & RH sensors?

Fixed a problem when changing the Y-Axis Scale Min/Max where it could crash WinGPIB.
So now if you try to enter a Max value equal to or less than the Min value then it won't allow it, it will force a valid value.
Similarly for the Min value entry.

Note:
I checked the Visual Studio form settings and "AutoScaleMode" is already set to "none" so should not be affected by changing Windows scaling......however, this is actually a minefield so not much more I can do. WinGPIB was designed to use 100% scaling.

Hi,
On the Temp./Hum. page
The stop button is invalid.

and my display page is as follows:

Please pay attention to the bottom line.

The STOP button on the Temp/Hum tab disconnects the serial port when it's connected to the serial Dogratian temp/Hum sensor.
The protocol is available here: https://www.dogratian.com/index.php/sensors/usb-tnh-sht30

Looks like you are not running an English configuration of Windows and it is having some affect on the scaling and also the font being used.

The bottom line is cut off because there is an issue with the TABS at the top of the form, i.e. there should be 1-row of tabs, but on your display the last two have rolled around to a 2nd row and thus is shifting everything down. I think caused by the font issues on non-English Windows config.

This can be fixed but it's a big job and unfortunately I can't do this:
- Use Resource Files for Localization
- Set Font Properties Programmatically
- Handle Form Scaling
- Test on Different Windows Configurations
- DPI Settings
- Provide Font fallbacks
- Use Anchors and Docking

So, all I can do is offer your some guidance on how you can fix the issue on your own PC. One or more of the following may help:

Adjust System Font Settings:
Users can try adjusting the system font settings on their Windows machine. They can go to "Settings" > "System" > "Display" > "Advanced display settings" and adjust the font size. However, keep in mind that this may affect the entire system, not just WinGPIB application.
WinGPIB uses "Microsoft Sans Serif" for 99% of the fonts.

Check Regional and Language Settings:
Ensure that the regional and language settings are configured correctly. Users can go to "Settings" > "Time & language" > "Region" and "Language" to set the desired language and region.

Check DPI Settings:
Users can check and adjust the DPI settings on their machine. This can be done in "Settings" > "System" > "Display" > "Advanced scaling settings." They can also right-click on the desktop, select "Display settings," and adjust the "Scale and layout" settings.

Update Graphics Drivers:
Ensure that users have up-to-date graphics drivers installed. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause display issues. Users can check for driver updates through the device manager or the manufacturer's website.

Check for Windows Updates:
Ensure that users have the latest Windows updates installed. Updates may include bug fixes and improvements that could impact the behavior of your application.

I'm trying to get this software working on my HP3457A and Racal DANA 1992.
Browsing through the messages here, I noticed that there seems to be issues in retrieving data from it.
Please know (if not yet known) that this device is stubborn: it's not using EOI, but it's replies are ALWAYS just 21 bytes (CR/LF included). Nothing signaling data is available.
All commands starting with R just return 21 bytes (indeed results are prefixed). It seems that you can only read exactly 21 bytes using read_bytes().
Please refer to this site:https://tomverbeure.github.io/2022/12/18/Setting-Up-a-GPIB-Communication-with-a-Racal-Dana-1992-Counter.html
That site got me up and running with some simple commands (RUT,RGS etc, yet the STB part that is explained there didn't work for me)
