I've added a handy new button to interrogate Windows to find the available COM ports on the PC. This basically mimics what you see under Windows Device Manager.
This is especially useful if you are using Prologix or compatible serial GPIB units.

Small GUI update. The SAVE SETTINGS, COM ports and PROFILE IMPORT/EXPORT buttons are now disabled if Device1 or Device2 are active.
This is to stop any issues arriving from trying to change/save any settings whilst any of the devices are being used.

Tooltips added for the 8off Device 1 profile checkboxes, and similar for Device 2.
Hover your mouse over the checkboxes to reveal the Device title you have set for that profile.

Also, hover your mouse over the yellow I/O DEVICE 1 text just above the connect button to see a list of the profiles, similarly for Device 2.

This was implemented just to make it a bit easier to locate a particular profile you may want to select.

Bug fix: 'Save All Profiles/Setting' button did not always save properly. This would manifest on slower PC's and/or perhaps Win7.

New feature: There's a new 'Settings' tab, see screenshot below.
- Allow or not the 'Save All Profiles/Setting' button to be available when connected to a device.
- Provision for using your favourite text editor for the GPIBchannels.txt file. PS. The examples cited on the settings tab assume you have those apps installed. NotePad++ highly recommended!

Improved the operation of the R6581 calibration constants download "ABORT" button, plus some small GUI updates to the R6581 tab.

PS. I still have not enabled the code for the Cal Constants UPLOAD. I'd like to test that myself, but am awaiting a ZIF socket for the SMD EEProm so I can back it up manually and easily change it out in the event of an issue. Once it's tested then I will enable the UPLOAD code. You can of course run the UPLOAD code right now, it will go through the motions but just won't send ANYTHING to the R6581.
If anyone else is in a position to test UPLOAD fully, then please contact me.

Some small GUI updates:
- Tooltips are now configured to appear quicker and stay on screen longer. You can also enable/disable them on the Settings tab (some folks don't like them).
- Various GUI typos fixed.
- Can now copy/paste the example text editor paths on the Settings tab.

The Import Profiles button now allows the user to navigate the \WinGPIBdata folder for a .dat file, then when selected will check the file contents for validity and after it's imported will report the number of entries loaded.

I should mention, the .dat file is a binary file and can’t be modified in a text editor. It’s a built in vb.net format so outwith my control.

Some small tweaks to the Export/Import Profiles functionality - Reports numbers of entries when exporting as well as importing.

Hey Ian,

Quick question - Did you ever look at using the VISA Serial option to connect to the temperature and humidity sensor? The reason I ask is that I have a separate machine sitting next to my 3458A and I typically run WinGPIB on that machine.

I can run WinGPIB on my desktop by using the VISA Server on that other machine and then using an address like "visa://tg-beelink.localdomain/GPIB0::22::INSTR" but I can't get the humidity sensor. If there was a GPIB option then I could use "visa://tg-beelink.localdomain/ASRL3::INSTR" as the device for the sensor.

It seems to work from the VISA test panel:

Just wanted to see if you found issues before I try adding this to the code.

Thanks,

TonyG

I've never tried a VISA server and ASRL like that as I've never needed to use it.......but it sounds quite interesting!

I did mention ASRL here only:
