Analog meters tutorial

Hi

Can anybody told me what is main rules for analog meters? Any links?
I hear about 1/3 scale trick but didnt understand it  :-//

For best accuracy use a range that gives above 1/3 of full scale deflection. Below 1/3 F.S., accuracy can get much worse.

As close to full-scale deflection as possible, without over ranging of course.

Another item for best accuracy is to use a mirrored scale to avoid parallax error.  Look straight in; not an an angle.  Your line of sight should be perpendicular to the meter face.  True whether or not a mirror arc is present.  With a mirror, one will see two pointers when not observing straight on.
