Hi all,

Not sure if this is the right area to ask this in, but it is concerned with unreasonable levels of pedantry, so I thought this might be the best  ;)

I’m looking for some books and other sources on lapping and polishing techniques. In particular, making first surface mirrors, and also for making parallel/precise angled and flat surfaces on various metal objects.

If anyone can point me toward some classics that would be great!

John Strong's book "Procedures in Experimental Physics" covers the basics. It's a bit old but the techniques are still valid. You might also look at books on telescope construction - Jean Texereau's "How to Make a Telescope" for example.
