Below sequence of photos showing how to hack the lock used to prevent unauthorized calibration.
It works with Datron 1271/81 but should also be suitable for most instruments with white front panel.
It is fine unless the equipment is used in student's lab.
Open the top cover to access to internal side of the rear panel.

Use screwdriver to unlock two plastic holders. Do this VERY gently not to break old material.

Use pilers to unscrew the nut.

Mark the proper position before removing the lock from the panel.

Remove the lock and remove securing ring. This is not so easy but can be done using one screwdriver.
Press to remove internal drum.
-
Remove all springs, parts from the drum.
-
Mount the drum into the lock.
Insert securing metal ring. This time it's easier.
Mount the lock on the rear panel.
Attach the plastic part with the cables.
Secure using zip tie.
Finished!
Now You can use a coin, screwdriver etc. to enable calibration procedures.

I wonder if the keys are same for these instruments?
I've purchased the key from RS and it works. I determined the part from details i got from a replacement key purchased by ManateeMafia.
As far as i'm aware all 1271 and 1281 share the same key.

I recently bought a 1271 and separately the manual for it. The manual came with a key and it worked in both 1281 and 1271.
-
I've got a 4708, 4808, and 1082 key. I believe the 1082 key also works in the 1271/1281.
When I didn't have a key I just picked the lock...
-
1071 keys also works in the 4000A, but didn't in the 1271.

The 1271 key doesn't work in my 1071 lock.

Just pick the lock, all you need are 2 paper clips to do so with these style of wafer locks.

How many 'master keys' are there for these locks? More than 10???
If so, I'll go with the 'pick' key...
-
I need keys for 1062 LS101, 4000, 4000A.
Maybe just easier to buy new lock?
After re-reading all the above posts I am quite lost in which key works which lock.
