GPIB logging with RF Scientific software?
« on: December 01, 2016, 11:48:09 am »
Can you use RF Scientific software with an Agilent 82357B GPIB to USB interface instead of the Prologix?
Can you log more than one instrument attached at the GPIB adapter at the "same" time (one after the other) using the free version of that software?

I have not got it to work with the Agilent 82357B GPIB to USB interface but it works perfectly alright with the prologix GPIB to USB Adapter.
And yes, you can log up to 10 instruments at the same time and have good control over each instrument either automatically or manually. The software works great for me.

There are 3 kinds of people in this world, those who can count and those who can not.

I asked them (email) a couple days ago, it is not supported, and there are no current plans. If there is demand though, maybe they can be convinced. I would be interested, and would also be willing to pay a (reasonable) price. Maybe if more send them a mail, they would do something about this.

You did not mentioned instrument.
For agilent DMM there is free DMM_Connectivity_Utility_1.0.2.0.exe which is capable to log more than 1h without PRO option which is required by BenchVue.
Or you can join to this thread, where we are collecting requirement for RPi based logging project.

Used Python has support for all devices including USB/LAN connection.
Prologix adapter is planned.
Data are available on website and on samba.
Python scripts are quite easy.

I want to log a few 3458A for about a month to identify drifting devices.
I've already seen the raspberry thread, but I only have 2 weeks to get it running, and I have no experience with raspberry or linux.

So you are exactly the user for this. Image ready to go including plots available on website is ready on xDevs site.
Which GPIB adapter you have?
Currently we have implemented E5810, NI GPIB HS. Prologix and 82357B is planned and I'm waiting for delivery.
Also logging of environmental conditions over BME280 is there including visualization.

Ok! So what hardware I have to buy?
Raspberry version?
Memory card for sytem and enough space for logging data (4x 3458A voltage and TEMP readout over a month or more).
What else?

Which GPIB adapter you have?
...Agilent 82357B GPIB to USB interface

Also logging of environmental conditions over BME280 is there including visualization.
Is internal TEMP from one or all of the 3458A's sufficient?
Or oven thermistor out from 732A read out over another 6 1/2 digit DMM?
Unfortunatelly I have to remove the whole setup from temperature controlled cal lab to another room without air condition (I think it will be within 22 +/-1 Celisus, anyway).
