Interesting article that demonstrates how susceptible to environmental factors analog ICs are. When I was at PMI we used to demonstrate that PEM circuits made pretty good strain gauges.

Just cannot beat hermetic packages for precision parts. In my opinion anyway.

Yes but costs are a concern as for example an OPA333 plastic is in the 5 Euro a ceramic one is in the 100 Euro ... a parameter quite important for a ''NASA'' user

An advantage for modern plastic parts is that they typically have copper leads. Hermetic ones are stuck with kovar which has about 40 μV/C thermal EMF against copper. Older plastic parts tend to have kovar (magnetic) leads.
