Indoor Air Quality - Detect Fuel (gasoline)?
« on: November 16, 2022, 02:05:52 pm »
Hello,
I have a small mechanics repair shop.
Sometimes I open up fuel tanks and there's strong gasoline smell.

Is there a "gasoline" (or fuel) detection sensor?
Either something pre-packaged from a company, or something hackable?

Something hackable could be with a raspberry pi, or ESP board, or something of the like.

Any thoughts?
Thank you!  I don't want to have too high of a smell in there and not realize it.

They do lots of these for boats so they should be fairly easy to find.

So everyone is clear, Calibration = Taking Measurement against a known source, Verification = Checking Calibration against Specification, Adjustment = Adjusting the unit to be within specifications.

What you're looking for is a TVOC sensor, there are quite a few to choose from. Some are more specific to certain compounds than others.

If you have programming skills in C++, the arduino plus MQ135 gives you the ability to measure gasoline vapor concentration levels. You can't measure the exact values, but the levels are.

Thank you all for your replies!
I'm opening links now and studying what to do.

Awesome! I'll update this thread with whatever I end up doing.

Have a good one!
