Measuring Coulombic Efficiency
« on: May 10, 2017, 03:17:53 am »
Not sure if this is the right section to post in, but I figure it's appropriate (mods please move if not).

Jeff Dahn one of the pioneering developers of the lithium-ion battery (a good candidate to interview on Amp Hour), gave a really fascinating talk on Coulombic Efficiency in lithium-ion batteries. It is basically a measure which can help determine how fast a particular battery is oxidizing and ageing, and therefore it can accurately predict the lifetime of the said battery.

In order to measure Coulombic Efficiency they had to construct precise temperature chambers and use a heap of Keithley current source meters SMUs and high precision bench DMMs. Skip to 25 minute mark if you'd like to just see the installation part. But I recommend the whole talk.

We found someone using more Keithleys than Tin in one experiment.

Oh bummer.. here is a similar talk he gave:

Here is a shot of the gear.. more SMUs and Keithley 2002s than even our Tin has 8)

Thanks for the video Muxr !  :-+

The 4 volt max exposure, made me think to mod my charger for for certain appliances that need long life li-ion cell.
