TL;DR: just some bilateral stuff being dragged out in public for whatever reason.
just to add to this story i was in contact with the Konrad ****** guy, i was about to purchase one, since it is / was a dream meter, told me a few things of one model needing some repair's ( maybe some failed optocouplers) and another one meter, the difference where on the back inputs, one normal and one with db37 connectors
i was a possible and a very capable buyer with a very good rep here, i was simply left down by Konrad, never heard nothing back, saw pictures of both ... and poof nothing since September 2024
not sure the Seller knows all, or bothers because 3 pm's later, no answers from him, kinda insulting a bit
I would issue a be careful
not here to bash Gene, but things need to be told
Excuse me?!? What things need to be told? E.g., the whole conversation we had via email after your 3 PMs? That I offered you a 8017 for 900€ and you complained about the price, imports, and calibration costs? Or that I asked you to ping me if you did not hear from me after Thanksgiving since I'm sometimes tardy? Or that our conversation did not end with 3 PMs unanswered from your side but with me sending the following email?

Thank you, I totally missted Genes posting! It was lots of fun to get the two units working (well, there is still the misbehaving opto in the second DMM) and discussing the repairs together with him.

Nice repair work for the 8017 for an eevblog memeber
Also thank you very much for telling everyone my full name on a publicly accessable forum! I did not consent to that!
Just to outline the complete story for the watching crowd and in defense of Martins verbal attack that came completely out of the blue:
I got in contact with Gene quite some time ago about his two Prema 8017 with some issues and I happened to have some experience with repairing and upgrading those and similar units. I'm living in Germany but my inlaws live in the US so I got a great project to work on (and a reason to hide

) when being in the US with my family. As Gene mentioned, I would get (and did - thanks again, Gene!) one of his DMM in return for my efforts. While troubleshooting the two units one bit at a time, a friend of mine got hold of another 8017 which I then took care here in Germany. He offered me to either buy it for little money or we sell it and split the gains. Thus, I had the possibility to own two 8017. In the meantime, Martin started to look for such a DMM and since I don't need two, I offered him either the unit in Germany, or the one I would get in the US after finishing the repairs. My preference was to sell the US one due to easier logistics and I offered it to him for 900€ once it's officially mine. Since he was quite hesitant, non committing, and (from my perspective) at one point lost interest, I decided to sell the unit at home and keep Gene's 8017. End of my story.
Now, Gene decided to sell the repaired unit for 750$, which is quite a steal! So, Martin, please stop badmouthing him and me and just buy that DMM if you are really serious about having one. You most likely won't get it at a better price - the one in Germany sold for almost twice as much!
Konrad was the guy that did the repair/refurb on the unit that I now have for sale. I was the original owner of both units that had issues, didn't work. I bartered one for his effort and time to repair and return a working unit to me. This whole arrangement took about a year as he only worked on my 8017 while statewide at his inlaws. I had no problem with this arrangement and got back a good, like new, 8017. I've had it for over a year now and it not getting used so I'm selling it but not giving it away.
I have not talked with Konrad for over a year and have no idea what he's doing with his well earned 8017.
Gene
Thanks for jumping in, Gene! I hope everything is well on your side and everyone is safe and sound. I just realized that I did not follow up on your last email... I was in the middle of getting a new job while dealing with other personal issues. Sorry for that! Your former 8017 finally managed to make the trip across the pond, has happily been counting ppm and made some new friends in my hobby lab

Cheers,
Konrad
