Strange ESI RV722 for sale on ebay
« on: April 07, 2016, 09:37:29 pm »
On ebay, an ESI RV722 [SP2665] for sale, whatever that is - perhaps a custom produced item?

Now what on earth are the Centronics connectors on the back for?

Interesting, I saw that one as well.
If it was a longer unit, possibly computer driven remote operation. I know GenRad produced some decade resistance/capacitance boxes.

Hopefully just each switch sandwiched to a second switch to report their positions, and no real meddling with the divider circuit.
Maybe there might be even little motors to turn the switches remote-controlled.

Low speed RDAC :)

That is how it was donein the Genrad box that was listed for parts. You could see the motor/gearbox, couldnt see the encoder/position sensor.

In the close up pic of the rear connectors you can just see some faint 'scribe' lines for the cut out where the connectors fit through, so my guess is an user mod for positional readout !.
Also the old catalogues make no mention of any variations on the standard box, ie options like motorized or otherwise. (not to say the custom mod was not from ESI itself though)
The odd multimeter or 2 or 3 or 4...or........can't remember !.

From what I have seen of the RV722 there shouldn't be any room for such shenanigans.

Now I have the little brother the RV622A and there is enough room for me to fit a PSU, 10V ref, perhaps a x10 1000V amplifier, etc. Yes, I have considered a microcontroller and stepper motors too  :-DD Also those front panel digits can be backlit with SMD LEDs...

But I would want to retrofit all that without ruining the original which appears to be older than me.

It doesn't look like it has room for much extra in there either, compared to my RV622A (100k, 700V version)

Unfortunately, shipping to germany is quite expensive. The seller answered this morning. It seems there are some 720 left.

Must have been a listing error.

There seems to be some sort of stock clearance going on.

There is no professional use for these anymore i.e. buyers who are willing to pay more than it costs to test and refurbish.

I hope that posting the link here helped, and as many as possible ended up to the forum members.

I sent them a message if they have any for sale. Will see how it goes. $130 I could risk for 720A...

The 720A weight 8.16kg cf datasheet. Taking 9.0kg as a rough estimate for the 720A plus package and protection, shipping cost for one = ~100€. Shipping cost for two = ~150€.

The seller talked about 450$ shipping :(
