hmm. "Untested" and the seller can't even be bothered to see if they power on. And AFIK there is no service info available on those so the chances of them working are very low and the chances of repairing them and getting them to operate within spec is pretty much nil. And on top of everything else, I don't see any seals on them so who knows who has been into them and what damage they may have done or what parts they may have taken out.

There are too many unknowns here and I won't touch them at that price.  As far as I'm concerned they're scrap and should sell for a scrap price.

Possibly (and I regard this price as scrap price, btw - including shipping: $15 literally diagonally across the country... which makes no sense for the size of those), but they sell in essentially unknown condition (other than turning on) for like $2-4k. I'd have taken on these as a project (well... two) without blinking. I'm working on things on this state pretty frequently with good results - a good example is my Prema 6048 was in a similar state with this (and got it for essentially the same price) and it's operational now. Also, component level service manual is available, so not a "blind project" (which I don't typically do).

My experience is rather positive with items that are "under-described." I think a lot of that is sellers not wanting to have anything to do with the liability of describing the item in any specific way (and therefore guaranteeing it).

The front panel is very similar to the Schlumberger/Solartron line of 6.5 digit DVMs with model numbers A210-240 from the mid-1970's, given I just restored an A240 and luckily got help from someone with the ginormous service manual.  Is there a family link ?

The Guildline 9578 is essentially a Solartron/Schlumberger 7081, an 8.5 digit voltmeter.

They were listed as "used" condition, so there was not much risk.  Someone may have gotten a great deal.

The Guildline 9578 is essentially a Solartron/Schlumberger 7081, an 8.5 digit voltmeter.

This matches my information, though I've not had one here for service and/or use.

The biggest disadvantage to this meter for me is the odd front panel connector for the probes. Just a terrible concept - how can one achieve calibrated measurements when many of them come with no dongle and others may not have the original one?

I think A-B Precision in Germany specializes in servicing these.

Manuals are easy to find here under the original brand; http://bama.edebris.com/manuals/solartron/7081/

Some info on where to find a clone of the input connector, for those that don't want to pay for the original Fischer part, here; https://groups.io/g/Solartron_Schlumberger_Equipment/topic/input_connector_cable/103448605

They don't have a dongle, AFAIK. Certainly my Solartron 7081 doesn't.

The Fischer connectors are a pain, but there is a reasonably priced Chinese supplier of equivalents. FFI, see other threads in this foru,.
There are lies, damned lies, statistics - and ADC/DAC specs.
